ROMAN'S READ: ITALIANO

Italy is just around the corner and it is starting to finally feel real that we are actually going. The nerves and excitement have all kicked in. Prepping to leave the country is in full effect, but more than anything we are ready for some savory foods, delicious wines, and lazy beach days that are in our near future. 

Luckily, Sal's mother saves everything. I do mean EVERYTHING. So we were able to inherit some of Sal's old learning Italiano books that she had hidden away in storage. As much as I love thrifting, I think this is even better. Just because I know the history behind the items. It makes me want to save them for Roman and his possible future children. The illustrations are charming and dated, the way I like it. Plus, since most of the books are for children, it has made it fun and adorable to learn the basics so I am not completely oblivious while I'm there. 

Roman and I look through the pages just before his nap each day. The pictures catch his attention and he now understands to point at things on the page. But has he learned any Italian? No. But that's okay, right now his English vocabulary only consists of 4 words: mama, dada, baba (bottle), and hi. 

Yesterday I was flipping through the text book and found a paper with some of Sal's writing on it from when he was a pup. It was adorable to picture him as a little guy trying to learn Italiano. Awww.

ROMAN'S READS

While thrifting at the Goodwill I saw this book and thought how perfect! I looked at the first page QUICKLY (there is a reason why I am emphasizing quickly, wait for it) and saw that it said "little Sal." That's what we call Roman all the time, because he looks so much like his papa bear. Even more perfect! Not. Apparently I am oblivious to the classics. I was completely unaware until reading that Sal is a little girl. Oops. Even the illustrations make it seem that Sal could potentially be a boy. Nonetheless, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce blueberries to my "little Sal" again. (He wasn't a big fan the first time around) He ate a couple and then got a bitter one and didn't want anymore, but he did seem to love the book. He stayed in his high chair the entire time and it's pretty lengthy for a 13 month old. It really is a cute story and I love how all the pictures are in dark blue ink, as if drawn with blueberry juice.

DR. SEUSS DAY

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday! I tried to make it a wacky/fun day. I started it off with a silly bath (someone is now a professional splasher). Then I made the traditional green eggs and ham for breakfast, I added spinach and green onion along with the green food coloring. Then we went to the park and had some rainbow goldfish to go along with our story of "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish." I then realized they don't have a blue gold fish? Roman finally isn't icky about grass. Since the first time I ever took him outside he has been despising the existence of grass. The texture just was not for him. It was a beautiful warm day, so I decided to air out those cute little toes and when I went to go get my camera he was walking in the grass trying to follow me. Usually he just stays in the perimeter of the blanket just looking disgusted when his hand or leg would accidentally make contact with the grass. I read to him under a shaded tree until he fell asleep. It was perfect. My intentions was to have a wild and fun day, but the day led to be relaxing and just simply simple.
